Late C19th Large Carved Mahogany Gainsborough Chair

Description

Impressive late C19th large carved mahogany Gainsborough chair; a well drawn chair in the C18th manner of Giles Grendey; of very generous proportions; the padded upholstered back and arms with sweeping supports, carved with acanthus leaves and headed with flower head paterae. The generous seat raised on very shapely cabriole legs intricately carved with foliate and scroll work design, terminating with exaggerated scroll toes; the cabriole legs to the rear headed with carved scrolls and with a good kick out shape.

English circa 1900

Very good condition, recently upholstered in green velvet with brass studding.
