Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Davenport desk is a compact writing desk featuring a sloped top writing surface, often lined with leather, alongside side shelves or drawers. Popularised during the George IV and Regency eras, these desks were originally commissioned by military officers requiring compact, functional workspace furniture.

19th-century Davenport desks were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or rosewood, accented with brass hardware, gallery rails, and castors. Writing surfaces were typically inlaid with gold-tooled leather inserts to facilitate writing with dip pens.

Authentic George IV Davenports feature hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass castors, period-correct brass fittings, and natural oxidation on unexposed wooden surfaces. Check for hand-tooled leather surfaces and wear patterns consistent with early 19th-century usage.

A Davenport desk serves as a functional focal point in a home study, hallway alcove, or living room corner. Position the warm mahogany desk near natural light to highlight the brass gallery and pair with a low-profile side chair.

Maintain mahogany timber by applying natural beeswax polish along the grain twice yearly, avoiding silicone sprays. Dust the leather surface regularly and position the piece away from direct sunlight or radiators to prevent wood movement and leather drying.
