Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kashan rugs originate from the city of Kashan in central Iran, a historical centre for textile production dating back to the Safavid period. Production experienced a major resurgence in the late nineteenth century under master weavers such as Mohtasham, whose workshops established a reputation for exceptional knot density and intricate curvilinear designs.

Traditional Kashan rugs are hand-knotted using high-grade wool pile spun onto a durable cotton warp and weft foundation. Premium examples, particularly those associated with Mohtasham, frequently utilised imported Manchester wool or silk accents to achieve a refined, velvety texture and sharp design clarity.

Authentic nineteenth-century Kashan rugs are recognised by their dense asymmetrical Persian knotting, balanced central medallion compositions, and soft colour palettes derived from natural dyes. Looking at the back reveals clear, visible knot structure without rigid machine backing, alongside characteristic floral spandrels and palmette borders.

A Persian Kashan rug serves as an anchor in both classical and contemporary settings. Interior designers place these textiles beneath dining tables or sitting room seating arrangements, pairing their deep navy and terracotta tones with natural wood furniture, neutral linen upholstery, or architectural minimalist pieces for visual contrast.

Preserve antique wool rugs by vacuuming regularly using suction only, avoiding rotating beater bars that loosen fibres. Position a quality underlay underneath to prevent slipping and uneven wear, rotate the rug annually to balance sun exposure, and commission professional dry cleaning specialized in historic hand-knotted textiles when required.
