Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency hall chair is a specialized form of non-upholstered wooden seating produced in Britain during the early nineteenth century (circa 18111830). Designed specifically for grand entrance halls and foyers, these chairs were intended for short-term visitors, servants, or messengers waiting to be received.

Regency hall chairs were predominantly crafted from dense, high-grade timbers such as West Indian or South American mahogany, oak, and occasionally walnut. Because they lacked fabric upholstery, makers focused on solid wooden construction with hand-carved backrests, turned or saber legs, and solid timber seat boards.

Authentic Regency hall chairs feature classic neoclassical design elements including reeded, spiral-turned, or saber legs, alongside carved crests such as anthemions, crests, or rope-twist motifs. The construction typically exhibits hand-sawn timber marks, original dovetail or mortise-and-tenon joints, and an absence of modern screws or synthetic glues.

In contemporary interiors, hall chairs serve primarily as sculptural accent pieces rather than daily seating. Interior designers often position them flanking a console table in an entrance hall, placing them singly in a narrow corridor, or using them in a formal study to introduce architectural interest and warm timber tones.

Preserve antique mahogany hall chairs by positioning them away from direct sunlight, radiators, and strong heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage and warping. Regular dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and an annual application of high-quality beeswax paste polish will protect the original finish and maintain the natural timber patina.
