Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A vesta case, or match safe, was designed during the nineteenth century to store friction matches, known as vestas, keeping them dry and preventing accidental ignition. These portable containers were carried in pockets or attached to watch chains before the widespread availability of modern lighters.

Vesta cases were produced in a wide variety of materials, with solid sterling silver, nickel silver, brass, and electroplated silver being the most common. Premium novelty examples were often cast in sterling silver with detailed repousse or engraved finishes.

Authentic silver vesta cases feature official assay hallmarks indicating the silver purity, makers mark, town mark, and date letter. Additionally, genuine nineteenth-century pieces display period-appropriate wear along high points, functional hinges, and integrated match-striking surfaces on the base or rim.

Small silver pocket accessories can be displayed on a tray upon a coffee table, integrated into a curated bookshelf arrangement, or styled atop an office desk alongside vintage stationery. Their compact scale makes them ideal accents for glass display domes or shadow boxes.

Maintain solid silver by wiping gently with a soft microfibre cloth and using a specialized silver polishing paste when necessary to remove tarnish. Avoid submerging items with internal iron spring mechanisms in water to prevent corrosion.
