Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A spider leg table is an 18th-century variation of the traditional gateleg drop-leaf table, characterised by exceptionally thin, turned legs reminiscent of spider limbs. These tables were designed to fold compact when not in use while providing sturdy support when extended.

Georgian makers predominantly utilised dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany due to its fine grain, strength, and deep colour. Secondary timbers such as oak, pine, or beech were commonly used for internal drawer linings and underside framing.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-cut joinery, hand-planed underside surfaces, and slender turned legs joined by mortise and tenon stretchers. Look for natural shrinkage in the timber tops, original iron rule-joint hinges, and age-related patination.

Position the table beside a sofa or armchair as an occasional side table, or place it in a hallway with one leaf dropped against a wall. The compact footprint allows it to function effectively in small living areas while adding historical character.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage, cracking, and fading.
