John Beazor Antiques is a family firm, established in 1875 and based in Cambridge since 1940. We are a traditional antiques shop, but very much in the 21st century. We deal in 18th and early 19th century furniture, barometers and clocks. We choose our stock for its originality and for the quality of its colour, patination and design.

We are members of the BADA. We do not exhibit at fairs preferring to deal from our Cambridge shop where we hold an Open Weekends from time to time.

Open 9.00am – 5.00pm, Tuesday to Friday, 10.00am - 4.00pm on Saturday. A prior phone call or email before visiting is always a good idea and we are happy to be contacted outside of business hours.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the mid-18th century during the reign of King George II, a chest on chest comprises two separate drawer units stacked vertically to offer ample storage while occupying minimal floor space.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid and veneered mahogany, featuring oak or pine secondary woods for drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, and cast brass handles.

Authentic 18th-century tallboys showcase hand-planed backboards, hand-cut dovetails with minor variations, natural wear on drawer runners, and historic oxidisation around internal brass fixings.

A tallboy can serve as a focal point in a bedroom or hallway, balanced by contemporary artwork, neutral wall colours, and natural linen textiles to create contrast.

Maintain mahogany furniture by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, applying natural beeswax polish annually, and keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
