Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in early 19th-century Britain, Regency library armchairs typically feature dark hardwood frames, such as mahogany or rosewood, combined with upholstered seats and backs. Design elements often include turned or sabre front legs, carved arm supports, and leather buttoned upholstery suited for formal study environments.

Period armchairs were generally constructed with solid timber frames, predominantly mahogany or oak. Upholstery utilised natural materials, including horsehair and wool padding, hand-stitched leather or velvet covers, and brass tacks or studs applied along the perimeter framing.

Authentic pieces feature period construction details such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, original brass castors secured with square-headed screws, and natural wear patterns on the frame and leather. The patination on the timber and hand-finished brass studs also help verify age.

A classic leather armchair serves as a focal point when placed alongside clean-lined modern furniture, creating architectural contrast. Combining the warm timber tones with neutral wall colours, modern task lighting, or minimalist side tables produces a balanced scheme.

Keep the chair away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the leather from drying or cracking. Treat the leather periodically with a specialised wax or balm, clean timber surfaces with a soft cloth, and apply a natural beeswax polish to maintain the finish.
