Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian open-top cabinets combine accessible upper shelving with enclosed lower cupboard storage. Frequently influenced by Neoclassical and Classical Revival styles, these pieces often feature rich timber veneers and decorative metal mounts.

Cabinet makers used solid mahogany or oak for structural frames, overlaid with flame mahogany veneers. Decorative accents included cast gilt-bronze or brass ormolu mounts, with secondary timbers such as pine or deal used for drawer linings and back panels.

Authentic pieces by London maker C. Mellier & Co usually feature maker stamps or metal plaques on door edges or drawer rims. They exhibit precision joinery, hand-cut dovetails, high-grade mahogany, and quality gilt-bronze fittings.

A tall mahogany cabinet can be placed against neutral or dark accent walls in a dining room or study. The open shelves allow for curated displays of ceramics or books, while the lower cupboard conceals contemporary electronics or table linens.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, following the direction of the wood grain. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, avoiding silicone-based sprays, and position the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood movement.
