We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III sideboard typically dates from the reign of King George III (17601820) and is defined by balanced classical proportions, rich mahogany timber, and practical dining room storage configurations. Common structural elements include central drawers, flank cupboards, curved or bow fronts, and tapered support legs.

Primary components were crafted from high-grade Cuban or West Indian mahogany veneers over solid oak or pine carcasses. Secondary details often include cast brass hardware, such as lion mask or drop-ring pulls, alongside inlaid stringing or carved wood accents.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, including hand-cut dovetail drawer joints and secondary timber backboards showing age-related shrinkage. Look for original brass lock plates, natural patina variations on the mahogany, and untrimmed structural mortise-and-tenon joints along the leg frame.

A Georgian sideboard functions as a focal anchor along a dining room or hallway wall. Position contemporary art or a gilded mirror centrally above the surface, and balance the top with minimalist ceramic vessels, brass lamps, or sculptural glass to bridge historical and modern aesthetics.

Maintain the original finish by dusting regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice annually. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, or uneven surface fading.
