Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A secretaire bookcase is a dual-purpose piece of cabinet furniture combining an upper glazed display cabinet with a lower drop-front writing desk and storage cupboard. Popularised throughout the 19th century, it provided an integrated solution for private studies and libraries.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany, walnut, or oak, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass escutcheons, and leather-lined writing surfaces. Interior fitted drawers frequently incorporated contrasting light woods such as satinwood or birds-eye maple.

Genuine 19th-century examples display hand-planed drawer linings, original crown glass panes with subtle imperfections, and hand-cut dovetail joinery. Authentic brass hardware, period locks, and natural age-related wear inside the writing surface mechanism also indicate authenticity.

Integrate the piece into a modern living space or study by styling the upper glazed shelves with curated ceramics, glassware, and books. Pair the warm mahogany wood tone with contemporary neutral walls or muted dark tones to create a focal point.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the wood grain. Position the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer movement and timber fading.
