Hedley Wilson has dated this Georgian Mahogany Longcase Clock to the 1800s.
George Yaxley West was something of an institution in Docking, Norfolk. In addition to making clocks he was the postmaster and the landlord of The Plough Inn.
This looks like an original error on the part of the dialmaker.
Although the case of this clock is simple the lines are pleasing and it has a good colour. It is small enough to adorn a modern home and become a treasured heirloom.
