Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian longcase clock is a tall, weight-driven floor clock produced in Britain between 1714 and 1830 during the reigns of King George I through King George IV. Characterised by wooden cases in oak, mahogany, or walnut, these timepieces house pendulum movements and served as primary domestic timekeeping standards.

Georgian clockmakers constructed cases predominantly from solid native oak, imported mahogany, or walnut veneers over pine. The internal mechanical movements were crafted from cast brass plates and steel pinions, paired with hand-engraved brass dials and cast corner spandrels.

Authentic eighteenth-century longcase clocks feature hand-engraved brass or silvered dials, cast spandrels at the dial corners, and hand-joined timber cases with traditional mortise and tenon joints. Marks from hand tools, original weight-driven movement mechanisms, and natural patination on brass elements indicate genuine age.

Position the longcase clock in an entryway, hallway, or dining room where its vertical proportions anchor the wall space. Pairing the warm oak tone with neutral paint shades creates subtle contrast, while uncluttered surrounding decor allows the polished brass dial details to remain the focus.

Maintain stable humidity and temperature levels to prevent the oak cabinet timber from cracking or warping. Apply a clear beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain and have the mechanical clockwork movement cleaned and lubricated by a professional horologist every three to five years.
