This nineteenth-century English Regency serving table is made from warm brown mahogany with contrasting dark ebony stringing and diamond inlay. The rectangular top sits above a panelled frieze decorated with ebony-line inlay, showing natural wood grain and neat mitred corners. Measuring H 94 cm x W 153 cm x D 61 cm, the table stands on four reeded legs with turned collars. Placed in a dining room, hallway or formal living space, the piece provides a striking surface for serving food and drink or displaying decorative items. The clean architectural lines and refined geometric inlay suit traditional and classic interior schemes, adding a polished focal point to the room.

Regency furniture, produced in Britain between approximately 1811 and 1830, is defined by classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian influences. Key features include clean architectural lines, symmetrical forms, rich mahogany veneers, and delicate inlay work such as ebony stringing or brass mounts.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency period predominantly utilized dense West Indian mahogany, valued for its stability and fine grain. Decorative details often incorporated contrasting timber inlays such as ebony, rosewood, or satinwood, alongside solid timber framing.

Authentic 19th-century ebony stringing is hand-cut and laid directly into hand-chiselled grooves in the primary timber veneer. Original inlay shows minor surface irregularities, natural shrinkage line variations around the borders, and age-consistent oxidisation of the surrounding timber.

A Regency serving table functions effectively as a hall console, a dining room server, or a focal table behind a sofa. Modern styling often pairs the warm timber tones with contemporary artwork, minimalist table lamps, or structured architectural ceramics to create visual contrast.

Mahogany furniture should be kept away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer movement. Dust regularly with a soft lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the natural finish.
