. The figured mahogany panel backs having an ebony strung line , between reeded frame uprights with turned paterae terminals .

The pair of armchairs with reeded arms raised on carved and reeded supports. The rear legs of ‘sabre’ design with an unusual inverted ‘kick’ to the bottom.
In excellent original condition with no damage or repairs and having achieved a rich colour and patina to the superior dense grade of mahogany. Minor evidence of treated and extinct woodworm to the underside of frames.

Benefitting from clean , serviceable covers with strong webbing beneath, with little signs of wear or usage. All chairs in strong and sound condition , ready to use .
A classic design of early C19th dining chairs , the “Trafalgar” design backs with ‘rope-twist’ bars taking their inspiration from the naval victory of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson over Napoleon’s French fleet at the battle of Trafalgar. The ebony line probably incorporated as a symbol of mourning for the loss of the great Naval national hero of the time, at the sea battle in October 1805 .
