Antique Silver Pocket Watch, 1925

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique silver pocket watch, 1925.

The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 49mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Birmingham 1925 with a case maker’s mark for the English watch case maker Aaron Dennison. The Dennison Watch Case Company often supplied cases for Swiss movements so as to avoid expensive import duty on precious metals. The case is in good condition, just a little gentle unevenness to the back, and an indentation to the side mostly hidden by the case backs.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The dial is in super condition. Original handsomely shaped hands in a blued steel finish.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 1920s Art Deco era, pocket watches featured clear typography, bold Arabic numerals, and streamlined open-face cases while retaining precision Swiss mechanical movements.

These timepieces typically feature solid silver or silver-plated cases, white enamel dials, steel hands, and gilt winding crowns enclosing mechanical lever movements.

Authentic timepieces generally feature hallmark stamps inside the case back, maker marks, serial numbers on the movement, and hand-applied enamel dials without modern print marks.

Pocket watches are frequently displayed on a glass watch dome stand, placed within a shadow box frame, or arranged alongside leather-bound books on a desk or bookshelf.

Store the timepiece in a dry environment away from magnetic fields, avoid over-winding the spring, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a horologist every three to five years.
