Also Antique Furniture has dated this George III Mahogany Linen Press to the 18th Century.
An impressive George III mahogany breakfront linen press dating from the late 18th century.
The lower section is fitted with nine drawers, all raised on bracket feet, providing an exceptional amount of additional storage.

The interior is arranged in three distinct sections, making the press particularly practical for modern use. The left-hand section encloses three adjustable shelves above three drawers. The central section provides full-height hanging space above a further three drawers. The right-hand section offers additional full-height hanging space, enclosed by an upper door and a lower door designed as faux drawers to maintain the balanced external appearance.

With its restrained Georgian proportions, generous storage capacity and impressive scale, this is an elegant and highly functional piece, equally suited for use as a wardrobe or as statement bedroom furniture.

The press dismantles into seven individual sections, including the cornice, making transportation and installation considerably easier than its overall size might suggest.

CONDITION
An attractive Georgian linen press with a pleasing colour and good overall appearance. The piece is structurally sound, the drawers run smoothly, and it dismantles into seven sections, including the cornice, making it considerably easier to transport and install.

As expected for a press of this age, there are general marks, knocks, old scratches and areas of fading and colour variation acquired through nearly 250 years of use. Some handles have been replaced. The upper interior has been adapted from its original configuration. The original linen slides have been removed and replaced to create the present arrangement, comprising adjustable shelving and hanging space. This provides excellent practical storage while preserving the external appearance of the press. There is some slight movement and warping to the shelves, together with historic repairs and replaced sections of timber around the hinges. The drawer interiors show typical wear and some age-related splits, although the drawers operate well.

Overall, this is a substantial, usable and characterful late 18th-century linen press that presents very well, with the expected signs of age and sympathetic historic repairs associated with a piece of this period.
