Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A compactum wardrobe is a comprehensive piece of bedroom storage furniture that combines hanging space, sliding trays or shelves, and built-in drawers within a single large frame. Originating in the nineteenth century, these pieces were designed to consolidate all garment storage into one substantial unit.

High-quality Victorian compactums were constructed using solid cabinet timber framed with rich mahogany or flame mahogany veneers. Drawer construction typically featured hand-cut dovetail joints, cedar-lined drawers, and solid brass locks and fittings.

Authentic period wardrobes display hand-sawn timber marks on back panels, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, and original brass lock mechanisms. Stamped signatures from historic maker firms on top drawer edges or lockplates further confirm authenticity.

A large mahogany compactum functions as a commanding focal point in a master bedroom or spacious dressing room. Pairing the dark wood tones with neutral wall colours, linen textiles, and contemporary lighting balances the grand visual weight of the piece.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish every few months to preserve the timbers natural lustre. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer cracking.
