Superb Queen Anne Style Walnut Two-piece Tallboy

1920 - 1940
Description

Beautiful Queen Anne Revival walnut veneered two-piece tallboy dating from the early to mid-20th century.

An exceptionally elegant and well-proportioned piece, featuring beautifully figured walnut veneers throughout. The chest is enhanced by its gently serpentine drawer fronts, attractive crossbanded veneers and elegant moulded top with finely stepped edging, all combining to create a refined and timeless appearance.

The tallboy is fitted with seven generously sized drawers, all retaining their original decorative brass swan-neck handles. The drawers slide effortlessly and provide an excellent amount of practical storage while maintaining the charm and character of this beautifully crafted piece.

Raised on elegant Queen Anne style cabriole legs, the chest has graceful proportions that make it equally suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Its slim footprint makes it an excellent choice where space is limited, offering generous storage without occupying a large floor area. It would look equally attractive in a bedroom, hallway or landing, finished with a table lamp, vase of flowers or other decorative accessories.

A superb quality walnut veneered tallboy offering both practicality and timeless elegance.

Condition

Presented in excellent vintage condition with only minor age-related character and signs of use consistent with its age.

The tallboy has been professionally cleaned and traditionally hand waxed in our workshop, enhancing the beautiful grain and rich natural colour of the walnut veneers.

Structurally solid throughout with no loose joints. All drawers slide effortlessly and retain their original decorative brass swan-neck handles.

Overall, this is a beautiful example presented in showroom condition and ready to be enjoyed immediately.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Queen Anne style emerged during the early eighteenth century, characterized by light, graceful proportions, curved lines, cabriole legs, pad feet, and the extensive use of figure-rich walnut veneers.

Traditional tallboys, or chests-on-chests, are constructed in two separate upper and lower sections to facilitate movement. The drawers typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, and applied feather or crossbanded veneered borders.

Authentic period pieces show signs of age-related timber shrinkage, hand-cut joinery with uneven dovetails, original pine or oak backboards, natural oxidisation in unexposed areas, and historic wear around the drawer runners and brass backplates.

A vertical tallboy provides substantial storage in rooms with limited floor space. Modern styling often pairs the warm timber tones and classical cabriole silhouette with neutral backdrop walls, simple modern art, or contemporary textile accents.

Maintain walnut furniture by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent veneer lifting and timber fading.
