Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chest on stand, also known as a tallboy or highboy, is a two-part furniture form developed in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It features an upper chest of drawers supported by a lower raised frame with legs and additional drawers.

These pieces were typically crafted using solid timber frames faced with figured walnut, mahogany, or oak veneers. Secondary timbers such as pine or deal were used for drawer linings, complemented by cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-dovetailed drawer joints, hand-sawn secondary timbers showing uneven tool marks, and original waist mouldings where the two sections meet. Authentic brassware will often show historical oxidisation and surface marks consistent with age.

A chest on stand functions as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living area, pairing well with neutral wall tones to highlight the timber figure. Placing contemporary table lamps or minimalist ceramic vessels on nearby surfaces provides a balanced mix of eras.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer movement, and fading.
