Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chest on stand, also known as a highboy, is a piece of storage furniture that originated in late 17th-century Britain. It consists of an upper chest of drawers supported by a dedicated raised stand, typically elevated on cabriole or turned legs.

During the Queen Anne and Early Georgian periods, cabinetmakers primarily used native English walnut and burr walnut veneers laid over pine or oak carcasses. Hardware typically consisted of cast or engraved brass handles and decorative keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, secondary timber oxidisation, and hand-worked brass fittings. The presence of natural age shrinkage, early construction techniques, and period-correct leg construction also assist in authentication.

A chest on stand functions as a focal architectural piece in hallways, living areas, or bedrooms. Pairing the rich timber tone with neutral wall surfaces and modern contemporary art creates a balanced contrast between historical craft and contemporary design.

Walnut furniture requires placement away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent timber movement and veneer lifting. Regular application of high-grade beeswax protects the original patination, while brass fittings should be left unpolished to preserve historical verdigris.
