We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George II furniture, dating from 1727 to 1760, is characterised by the use of figured walnut veneers, balanced proportions, and understated brass hardware. Pieces from this era frequently feature bracket feet, herringbone crossbanding, and graduated drawer arrangements.

18th-century cabinetmakers used solid walnut or walnut veneers over softwoods such as pine or deal for the primary carcase. Secondary timbers like oak or pine were employed for drawer linings, complemented by cast brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, thick hand-sawn veneers, and irregular wear consistent with age. Drawer linings often feature timber shrinkage gaps and hand-planed secondary woods along with historical hardware fitting marks.

A dark walnut chest of drawers acts as an anchor piece against neutral wall tones or textured plaster finishes. Positioning artwork above the chest or pairing it with modern lighting creates a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Apply high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and preserve the patina. Avoid placing walnut furniture near central heating radiators or direct sunlight to prevent veneer lifting and timber shrinkage.
