Amboyna veneer, sourced from Pterocarpus trees, became highly prized in nineteenth-century cabinetmaking for its intricate burr figure. High-end firms such as Gillows of Lancaster and London incorporated these exotic timbers alongside parcel gilt detailing to produce functional accent furniture for formal interiors.
