Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An aneroid barometer is a non-liquid instrument designed to measure atmospheric pressure using a small, flexible metal box called an aneroid capsule. Invented in the nineteenth century, it registers pressure changes through a mechanical linkage connected to a pointer on a calibrated dial.

Victorian aneroid barometers typically feature carved timber cases made from oak, mahogany, or walnut, housing a silvered brass dial and a heavy glass lens set within a brass bezel. Internal mechanisms rely on steel springs and brass lever movements to register atmospheric changes.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature hand-engraved silvered dials with period typography, precise maker marks or serial numbers, and heavy cast brass bezels. The timber casings exhibit hand-carved details, natural age patination, and original hanging fittings.

A carved oak wall barometer functions as a focal point when mounted on a narrow wall space, within a gallery wall arrangement, or above a hallway console table. The warm wood tones and polished brass trim complement traditional, transitional, and dark academia interior schemes.

Dust the timber case regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax paste annually to preserve the wood finish. Avoid abrasive polish on the silvered dial and keep the instrument away from direct heat sources or rapid humidity fluctuations to protect the mechanical movement.
