Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Sutherland table is a style of mid-19th century drop-leaf occasional table named after Harriet, Duchess of Sutherland. It features a very narrow central fixed top section with deep falling leaves on either side, supported by swinging gate legs.

These tables were typically crafted from solid fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood. They feature turned baluster end supports, carved stretchers, brass drop-leaf hinges, and brass castors with ceramic wheels.

Authentic period examples display hand-carved end supports, original brass rule hinges, period ceramic castors, and smooth-operating pivoting leg legs. The timber typically exhibits genuine patination and age-related oxidisation on the underside.

A Sutherland table works exceptionally well positioned behind a sofa, positioned along a narrow hallway, or folded down in a reading corner as an occasional coffee or side table.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep timber away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight exposure to prevent shrinking and bleaching.
