Antique Burr Walnut Cocktail Cabinet with Fitted Mirrored Interior C.1930

1920 - 1940
Description

An exceptional antique burr walnut cocktail cabinet dating from circa 1930, combining richly figured veneers, generous storage and a beautifully fitted drinks compartment within an impressive period design.

The cabinet is constructed in the Queen Anne Revival taste, with a gently serpentine front, shaped upper gallery, carved shell and pendant ornament, a scrolling apron and elegant cabriole legs. Its principal attraction is the outstanding burr walnut, carefully selected and book-matched across the four doors to create dramatic symmetrical patterns with remarkable depth, movement and warm golden colour.

The two central doors open to reveal a fitted cocktail interior with a mirrored back, glass shelves and a glass serving surface. Beneath are a useful drawer and additional storage compartments designed for bottles, accessories and serving equipment. The curved outer cupboards provide further storage with shaped internal shelves, allowing glassware and drinks to be arranged neatly while remaining easily accessible.

Produced during the interwar period, when English furniture manufacturers combined traditional cabinetmaking with the glamour and sociability of the Art Deco age, cocktail cabinets of this scale and quality have become increasingly desirable. Fine burr walnut examples offer lasting decorative appeal and are particularly sought after by collectors, interior designers and homeowners seeking usable furniture with character and investment potential.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging in popularity during the 1920s and 1930s, cocktail cabinets were designed specifically for home entertaining, incorporating dedicated storage for glassware, decanters, and cocktail preparation accessories.

These cabinets frequently feature highly figured wood veneers such as burr walnut, mahogany, or maple, combined with mirrored glass linings, glass shelving, and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces usually display distinctive book-matched timber veneers, hand-fitted brass hardware, integrated mirror linings, and specific period joinery techniques.

A cocktail cabinet serves as a functional statement piece in a dining room, living area, or reception space, offering integrated storage while maintaining a clean aesthetic when closed.

Maintain the timber surface by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying high-grade beeswax sparingly, keeping the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
