Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The motif derives from Sir Joshua Reynolds 1787 oil painting depicting winged cherub heads from multiple angles. This imagery became immensely popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, frequently reproduced in repousse silver metalwork.

Edwardian frames were constructed by stamping or hand-hammering thin sheets of sterling silver using repousse techniques to create raised relief designs. The silver sheet was then folded over or pinned to a wooden or textile-covered backing board fitted with an easel stand.

Authentic pieces feature official British assay office hallmarks, including a makers mark, town mark, lion passant standard mark, and a specific date letter corresponding to 1901 through 1910. The construction of the velvet or mahogany easel back also indicates genuine period manufacture.

An ornate silver frame offers tactile contrast when arranged alongside contemporary ceramics or minimal glassware on a side table. Pairing monochrome black-and-white portrait prints with detailed silver metalwork provides a balanced decorative aesthetic.

Clean the metal using a soft cotton cloth and dedicated silver polish, taking care to avoid getting cream on the fabric lining or backing material. Display the frame away from direct moisture and sulphur-emitting sources to minimise surface oxidation.
