Regency Style Mahogany Three Pillar Extending Dining Table – Circa 1910

1900 - 1920
Description

Regency Style Mahogany Three Pillar Extending Dining Table – Circa 1910

An elegant Regency style mahogany three pillar extending dining table, dating from circa 1910, offering exceptional proportions, timeless craftsmanship and superb versatility for both formal and family dining.

Constructed from beautifully figured solid recycled antique mahogany, this impressive table reflects the cabinetmaking traditions of the early 20th century. During this period, skilled craftsmen frequently repurposed antique mahogany that had become readily available from earlier Georgian and Regency furniture. This allowed them to make use of a wonderfully seasoned and highly prized timber, renowned for its rich colour, stability and outstanding grain, creating furniture of exceptional quality that remains highly desirable today.

The table features elegant, rounded ends, giving it a softer and more refined appearance than square-ended examples, while the beautifully figured top displays a rich, warm patina developed over more than a century.

Supported on three Regency style pedestal bases, each with graceful swept legs terminating in original brass castors, the table offers excellent stability and generous legroom for guests. Two removable extension leaves allow the table to be configured for everyday dining or extended to comfortably accommodate larger gatherings.

A superb choice for traditional country houses, period homes or elegant contemporary interiors where classic British craftsmanship is appreciated.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency style dining tables, originating in early 19th-century Britain and revived in the Edwardian era, feature elegant pedestal bases, reeded or splayed legs, and high-quality mahogany construction designed for formal dining spaces.

These tables are constructed primarily from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, featuring turned central pillars supported by splayed tripod or quadrupod legs fitted with brass castors.

Look for signs of period craftsmanship such as hand-fitted extension mechanisms, original brass castors with natural patination, dense timber grain, and age-appropriate oxidation on the underside of the table top.

Pair the dark polished wood with contemporary upholstered dining chairs, position beneath a modern minimalist chandelier, and utilise neutral table linens to balance the traditional timber tones.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent fading, polish regularly with a high-grade natural beeswax, and clean up liquid spills immediately using a soft microfibre cloth.
