Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A serpentine-fronted dressing table features a distinctive convex centre flanked by concave sides, creating an undulating wave profile. This design emerged in mid-eighteenth-century English cabinetmaking to add graceful geometry to timber case furniture.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid mahogany and veneered with flame mahogany panels. Secondary timbers often include oak or pine for drawer linings, accented by cast brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons.

Look for hand-dovetailed drawer joints, oak or pine drawer linings with original runners, and signs of natural timber shrinkage along the top and side panels. Cast brass hardware should show hand-chased details and appropriate patination on the backplates.

Position the piece against a contemporary neutral or deep jewel-toned backdrop to highlight the rich timber grain. Complement the desk with a minimal table lamp and a framed mirror to balance classic wood tones with contemporary decor.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage and finish fading.
