Royal Worcester Richard Sebright Signed Painted Fruit Cabinet Plate, 1911

1900 - 1920
Description

Produced by the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company and bearing the date code for 1911, this elegant cabinet plate is signed by the celebrated fruit painter Richard Sebright. The underside retains the original Bonhams auction label, providing documented auction provenance.

The central reserve is painted with two richly coloured apples and a naturalistic vine branch in luminous overglaze enamels. Sebright's refined brushwork and delicate tonal transitions create an exceptionally realistic still life, demonstrating the artistry that established him as Royal Worcester's most distinguished fruit painter.

Richard Sebright is officially recognised as the greatest fruit painter in the history of Royal Worcester. His signed works represent the highest achievement of the factory's celebrated Painted Fruit tradition and continue to command exceptional collector interest.

The broad Pattern W8346 border is richly decorated with a warm yellow ground, intricate burnished hand-applied gilding, finely executed raised jewelled ornament and elegant scrolling foliate decoration. The reverse bears the official Royal Worcester factory backstamp with the date code for 1911, pattern number W8346 and the original hand-painted factory workman's mark.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cabinet plate is an ornamental ceramic dish created specifically for display in china cabinets or on walls rather than for functional food service.

These pieces were produced using bone china, hand-applied enamel pigments, and raised gold gilding layered over precise glaze firings.

Authenticity is verified through printed factory backmarks containing specific date codes, alongside artist signatures near the lower edge of hand-painted central panels.

Cabinet plates are commonly displayed upright on acrylic or brass stands upon sideboards, or arranged in symmetrical wall-mounted groupings.

Preserve gilded surfaces by dusting with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, keeping the item away from moisture, liquids, and abrasive cleaners.
