Royal Worcester Albert Shuck Signed Painted Fruit Cabinet Plate, 1918

Description

Produced by the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company in 1918, this finely hand-painted cabinet plate is signed by the accomplished factory artist Albert Shuck. The underside retains the original Bonhams auction label, providing documented auction provenance.

The central reserve depicts two ripe apples and a branch of dark blue grapes amongst delicate blossom and foliage, executed in finely shaded enamels with the naturalistic modelling characteristic of Royal Worcester's celebrated Painted Fruit tradition. The broad cobalt blue border is lavishly enriched with hand-applied burnished gold ornament and finely executed raised jewelled (pearl) gilding.

Albert Shuck (1880-1961) belonged to the distinguished generation of Royal Worcester artists who established the factory's international reputation for painted fruit porcelain during the early twentieth century. His signed cabinet plates remain highly regarded by collectors and continue to enjoy strong market demand.

The underside bears the authentic puce Royal Worcester crowned factory mark with the date code for 1918. Above the factory mark appears the retailer's mark of Mappin & Webb, one of Britain's most prestigious jewellers and luxury houses, which regularly commissioned and retailed Royal Worcester's finest porcelain for its distinguished clientele.
