Antique Silver Omega Fob Watch and Chain

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique silver Omega fob watch and chain.

The watch has an Omega stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 34.5mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 935 silver, so slightly purer than sterling silver, and it is in lovely condition, just a very slight indentation to the back, nothing serious at all. The inner back cover has the Omega logo, and both back covers have Continental silver marks.

The acrylic lens is in lovely condition.

The dial has two faint hairlines.

Also included is a single silver chain, 34cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.

The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pocket watches developed in Europe during the sixteenth century, evolving from portable spring-driven clocks. By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, silver open-face pocket watches with Albert or fob chains became standard accessories for keeping accurate time, secured to waistcoat pockets with a T-bar.

Antique pocket watches typically feature cases crafted from sterling silver, nickel silver, or gold, housing a mechanical movement. Dials are commonly made from fired enamel over copper plates, paired with blued steel hands and protective mineral glass crystals.

Authenticity is identified by examining silver hallmarks stamped inside the case back, movement maker marks, and serial numbers. Traditional features include porcelain or enamel dials with crisp Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, and hand-wound Swiss mechanical movements.

Antique pocket watches can be displayed on specialised glass dome stands, framed shadow boxes, or watch stands placed on desks and bookshelves. They serve as historical decorative accents in study spaces or dressing rooms.

Keep the silver case clean by gently wiping it with a soft microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners that could enter the movement. To preserve mechanical integrity, store the timepiece in a dry environment and have the movement professionally serviced and lubricated periodically.
