Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Open-face pocket watches feature a dial without a protective metal cover, enabling immediate time-reading. Popularised during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, they were widely adopted by railway workers and professionals requiring clear visibility.

Cases were typically crafted from sterling silver, nickel alloys, or gold plate, housing a hand-painted or transfer-printed porcelain enamel dial. Movements utilised brass plates, steel gears, and synthetic or natural jewel bearings for longevity.

Authentic pieces feature signature serial numbers stamped on both the movement and case back, alongside the maker mark. Examination of the movement calibre, trademark symbols, and dial typography helps confirm origin and period of manufacture.

The watch can be secured inside a waistcoat pocket with the Albert chain T-bar fastened through a buttonhole. Alternatively, placing the timepiece in a suit jacket breast pocket or tailored trousers coin pocket creates a refined vintage accent.

Mechanical pocket watches require routine servicing by a professional horologist every three to five years to clean gears and reapply fresh lubricant. Keep the timepiece in a dry environment and wind the movement regularly without over-tightening the mainspring.
