Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A breakfront bookcase is a large storage cabinet featuring a central section that juts forward beyond the flanking side wings. Originating in the 18th century, the design was developed to add architectural depth to grand library spaces and enable prominent book display.

Edwardian breakfront bookcases typically utilise solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine or oak carcases. Metalwork details often incorporate cast brass mounts, decorative brass moulding, and woven brass wire mesh screens in place of standard glass panes.

Authentic pieces from around 1910 show hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawer linings, cast brass hardware secured with period slotted screws, and subtle variations in hand-carved or applied timber moulding along the cornice.

Position the cabinet along a primary focal wall in a study, dining room, or wide hallway. Balance the traditional mahogany frame by styling the shelves with contemporary ceramic vessels, bound volumes, and sculptural objects grouped in minimalist arrangements.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth and apply clear beeswax polish once or twice annually along the wood grain. Clean brass mounts carefully using a dry microfibre cloth to prevent cleaning chemicals from stripping the original patina or damaging adjacent wood finishes.
