Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Welsh bread and cheese dresser is a regional variation of traditional country furniture originating in North Wales during the eighteenth century. It typically features ventilated upper cupboard doors with turned spindles designed to allow air circulation for storing baked goods and dairy produce.

These dressers were constructed primarily from local oak, joined with wooden pegs and hand-cut dovetail joints. Features often include fielded door panels, hand-turned spindles, and original brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of period construction, such as hand-sawn timber on rear panels, pegged mortise and tenon joints, natural wear around handles, and unevenness typical of hand-planed wood.

Place the item against light, neutral plaster or lime-washed walls to create visual contrast. The open rack shelving can be styled with contemporary monochrome ceramics, white ironstone, or minimalist glassware to balance the dark timber.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and areas with extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent wood movement.
