Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A glazed vitrine display cabinet is a piece of furniture featuring glass sides and front panelling designed to display collectible items, ceramics, or retail goods while protecting them from dust. Originating in 18th-century Europe, these cabinets became prominent fixtures in residential drawing rooms and high-end retail establishments throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Early 20th-century display cabinets were commonly constructed using hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, often decorated with satinwood stringing or marquetry inlay. The glazed panels utilised hand-cut glass, supported by framed timber doors and adjustable or fixed glass internal shelving.

Authentic pieces typically show evidence of traditional joinery, such as hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass lock mechanisms, and subtle irregularities in period float glass. Inspecting the underside and rear panels often reveals secondary woods, while period-correct bracket feet or tapered legs reflect historic construction techniques.

Position the cabinet as a vertical focal point in a dining room, hallway, or living space to house curated ceramic collections, glassware, or books. Combining clean contemporary objects inside with the warm tones of polished mahogany creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern minimalism.

Clean glass panels using a lint-free cloth dampened with clear water, avoiding contact with surrounding woodwork. Preserve the mahogany frame by applying a beeswax polish along the grain twice a year, keeping the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood movement.
