Antique Kingwood & Ormolu Display Cabinet by François Linke with Marble Top

19th century
Description

An exceptional antique French display cabinet by the legendary Parisian ébéniste François Linke, bearing the original stamped lockplate, an important mark of authenticity from one of the finest cabinet makers of the Belle Époque.

Crafted from beautifully figured kingwood veneers laid in striking herringbone patterns, this elegant vitrine showcases the extraordinary quality and refinement that made Linke internationally renowned. Rich gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts adorn each corner, while the delicately cast central apron featuring a classical mask and floral garlands demonstrates the exceptional artistry associated with the finest Paris workshops.

The cabinet is crowned by a superb rouge marble top, whose warm tones perfectly complement the luxurious kingwood veneers beneath. Fully glazed to the front and sides, the cabinet offers an elegant display for fine porcelain, silver, objets d'art, or treasured collections. Internally, the adjustable glass shelves maximise both light and visibility, creating a striking presentation from every angle.

Furniture by François Linke is regarded amongst the very finest examples of French cabinet making, with original signed pieces becoming increasingly scarce and highly sought after by collectors, interior designers, and investors worldwide. Cabinets retaining original details, including a stamped lockplate and finely cast ormolu mounts, command particular interest within today's international antiques market.

Equally suited to both period homes and contemporary luxury interiors, this remarkable display cabinet represents not only an exceptional decorative statement but also a lasting investment in museum-quality craftsmanship.

Presented in good antique condition, displaying the beautiful colour and character acquired through well over a century of careful use.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XV style vitrines are refined glass-fronted display cabinets that emerged in 18th-century France, defined by curved cabriole legs, ornate gilt-bronze mounts, and exotic wood veneers.

These cabinets feature kingwood or rosewood veneers arranged in decorative parquetry patterns, accented by chased gilt-bronze mounts, interior glass shelves, mirrored backs, and fitted marble tops.

Authentic pieces from master cabinetmakers like Francois Linke display exceptional chasing on heavy gilt-bronze mounts, fine crossbanded veneers, precise joinery, and often subtle maker stamps or signatures on lockplates.

Position the cabinet as a focal piece against a neutral wall, using its mirrored interior to reflect natural light while displaying curated contemporary ceramics or glass objects inside.

Dust veneer surfaces gently with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid direct heat sources; clean gilt-bronze mounts sparingly with a soft brush, avoiding chemical solvents that strip patination.
