Pair of 19th Century French Marble Urn Lamps

19th century
Description

*Pair of 19th Century French Marble Urn Lamps*

A magnificent pair of antique French table lamps, converted from 19th-century carved green marble urns. These elegant pieces showcase the refined craftsmanship of the period, featuring richly veined dark marble bodies, classical urn forms, and finely detailed gilt bronze mounts with ornamental goats heads and decorative garlands.

The urns have been sympathetically transformed into lamps while preserving their original architectural character. Each lamp is topped with a warm amber silk-effect shade with scalloped edging and traditional fringe trim, creating a soft, atmospheric glow.

A sophisticated example of French decorative arts, these lamps would make a striking addition to a period interior, adding elegance and historical charm to a drawing room, library, or grand bedroom.

PAT tested.

Some chipping to the marble at top of urns, see pictures, but doesn’t impact the functionality or look of these lamps.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These lighting fixtures feature central bodies carved from marble into classical urn or amphora shapes, usually mounted with ornate gilt bronze or brass fittings inspired by Neoclassical design.

They are predominantly crafted from dense, veined marble, such as Portoro or Rouge Royale, paired with cast bronze or brass mounts that are patinated or gilded.

Authentic period pieces exhibit heavy stone construction, hand-chased metal details, natural surface variations, and signs of original oil or gas fittings later converted for electricity.

Arranging them symmetrically on a sideboard, console table, or mantelpiece creates visual structure and introduces classic texture to minimalist or transitional rooms.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft cloth, avoid acidic or chemical cleaners on unsealed stone, and wipe metal mounts with a dry cloth to maintain the aged gilding.
