Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian bracket clock is a spring-driven table clock produced during the reign of Kings George I through George IV (17141830). Originally designed to sit on a matching wall bracket or table surface, these timepieces typically feature timber cases, carrying handles, and internal fusee movements.

Georgian bracket clocks were predominantly constructed from mahogany, walnut, or ebony veneers over oak frames. Movements were crafted from brass and iron, while dials were made from brass or silvered metal with pierced brass fretwork for sound resonance.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit hand-engraved brass or silvered dials, twin fusee mechanical movements with gut or wire lines, hand-cut dovetail joinery in the cabinetry, and cast brass feet or carrying handles consistent with period metalworking techniques.

Place the clock as a focal point atop a fireplace mantelpiece, library bookcase, or dark wood sideboard. Complement the piece with structured brass accent items, framed botanical prints, or minimalist ceramics to balance historical craftsmanship with contemporary design.

Keep the wood case away from direct sunlight, central heating vents, and high humidity to prevent veneer cracking. Wind the mechanical movement regularly using the correct key, and clean the mahogany with a high-quality beeswax polish using a soft microfibre cloth.
