Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the eighteenth century, a tripod table is a small occasional table supported by a central turned column resting on three splayed legs. Typically constructed with a circular top, these pieces were designed for flexibility and were frequently used for serving tea, display, or reading.

Tripod tables were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut, which provided structural integrity for the slender turned pedestal. The legs were often joined using dovetail housing joints driven directly into the base of the central column.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-sawn markings underneath the top, hand-carved turned columns, and subtle wear patterns on the feet. Original wrought iron or timber block mechanisms securing the top to the pedestal are also key markers of period construction.

Position a tripod table alongside an armchair or sofa to function as an accent side table for lighting or reading material. Its compact three-legged footprint allows it to nest neatly into tight spaces, bay windows, or reading nooks.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight to prevent timber movement and finish fading. Clean the surface regularly with a dry soft cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to protect the timber.
