Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain is a style of Japanese export ceramic produced in the Arita area, distinguished by its characteristic palette of underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze iron-red, and gilt detailing. Wares from the Meiji period (18681912) often feature complex geometric panelling, floral motifs, and high-level technical precision tailored for European export.

Traditional Imari ceramics were formed from kaolin porcelain clay fired at high temperatures. Cobalt blue decoration was painted directly onto the unfired body under the glaze, followed by high-temperature firing, after which iron-red enamels and gold leaf were applied over the glaze for a final lower-temperature firing.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-painted variations in glaze application, slight asymmetry in the porcelain body, and spur marks on the base from kiln firing. Authentic age shows through subtle surface wear to overglaze enamels rather than uniform modern transfer printing.

Imari porcelain dishes serve as effective accent pieces when displayed on wooden sideboards, mounted on accent walls, or integrated into modern gallery shelving. The bold blue and iron-red tones provide a strong colour contrast against neutral backdrops.

Care for antique porcelain involves gentle hand-washing using warm water and a mild detergent. Abrasive sponges, harsh chemicals, and dishwashers should be avoided, as overglaze enamels and gilding are susceptible to rubbing and erosion.
