Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain is a style of Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita region of Hizen province, named after the port of Imari from where it was exported. It is recognised for its distinct palette combining underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron-red and enamel accents.

During the Meiji period, porcelain craftspeople utilised high-firing kaolin clay to form vessel bodies before applying cobalt blue underglaze motifs. After the initial firing and glazing, overglaze enamels including iron red and green were hand-painted onto the surface and fired again at a lower temperature.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-painted variations in line work, spur marks on the underside from kiln firing, and slight irregularities in the clay body. The cobalt blue underglaze often exhibits subtle variations in depth, while overglaze enamel displays light surface wear consistent with age.

Imari dishes can be arranged on stands upon a wooden sideboard, integrated into a wall display, or positioned within open shelving to contrast with contemporary decor. The palette of cobalt blue and iron red provides a strong colour accent within living and dining spaces.

Clean porcelain items using lukewarm water and mild dish soap applied with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive pads, and automatic dishwashers, as these can strip overglaze enamels and decorative gilding.
