Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bonheur du jour is a style of small ladies writing desk introduced in 18th-century France and popularised during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. It typically features a raised upper section with small drawers, cabinets, or mirrors situated above a flat writing surface.

Edwardian writing desks were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, frequently embellished with delicate satinwood or boxwood marquetry inlay, polished brass hardware, and leaded glass panels.

Authentic Edwardian furniture dating from circa 1900 to 1910 displays refined drawer construction with hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass fittings, square tapered legs, and intricate timber marquetry rather than printed patterns.

Place the desk in an entry hall, home library, or bedroom nook to serve as a focal point. Complement the dark mahogany tones with neutral wall palettes, brass lighting fixtures, and curated ceramic objects on the display shelves.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to preserve the finish. Keep the desk away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent warping or fading of the marquetry.
