Mahogany Bow End Shop Display Cabinet ,1900s

1900 - 1920
Description

A handsome early 20th century mahogany display cabinet of bow-front form, dating from the early 1900s Constructed in mahogany, the cabinet features elegant curved glass ends, a fully glass top, and three glass doors fitted with ring handles.

The interior is fitted with adjustable glass shelves supported by ebonised uprights and retains a blue-green lined base, providing an attractive backdrop for displayed items. The curved end glass and top allow excellent visibility from all angles, making the cabinet ideal for the display of jewellery, silver, collectables, or retail merchandise.

Raised on a moulded plinth base, the cabinet displays the quality craftsmanship associated with early 20th century shopfitting. It remains in good original condition, showing the expected signs of age and use acquired over many decades, including wear to the plinth, surface scratches to the glass, and age-related patination throughout.

A practical and highly decorative display cabinet with excellent proportions, equally suited to both commercial and domestic interiors.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian bow-ended shop display cabinet is a commercial retail fixture produced in the early twentieth century, characterised by curved glass ends, timber framing, and clear glass panels designed to showcase merchandise from multiple angles.

These pieces were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, fitted with float glass panels, polished glass shelves, brass hinges or latches, and occasionally fabric-lined interior bases.

Authentic period examples generally display hand-cut joinery, original brass hardware with natural oxidisation, drawn or slightly uneven historical glass, and natural wear consistent with commercial use along the timber framework and base.

In residential settings, these cabinets function as kitchen islands, dining room sideboards, or storage units for collections, glassware, and books, offering visibility while protecting delicate items.

Timber elements should be treated with a natural beeswax polish applied along the grain, while glass panels require non-ammonia cleaners applied via a soft cloth to protect adjacent wooden frames and original adhesives.
