Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This style of chair typically features a curved solid backrest, turned spindles, integrated armrests, and a sturdy wooden frame designed for office or study use. Originating in nautical and commercial settings, these chairs became standard fixtures in offices, libraries, and home studies during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.

Frames were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, held together with mortise and tenon joinery. Seats were often upholstered in leather secured with decorative brass studs, or crafted from solid carved timber with spindle backs and turned legs for durability.

Authentic pieces feature hand-finished turned spindles, natural age-related patina on the oak, and evidence of traditional construction methods like pegged joints or original brass tacking. Inspecting the underside for historical maker stamps or hand-cut joinery also helps confirm age and authenticity.

Pair the chair with a minimalist contemporary desk or a rustic wooden workspace to create a balanced, layered aesthetic. The warm oak tones and green upholstery contrast effectively against neutral walls, industrial metal accents, or tailored modern study schemes.

Dust the oak frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to preserve the wood finish. Treat the leather seat with a dedicated leather conditioner to maintain flexibility, and keep the chair away from direct heat sources to prevent timber warping or leather drying.
