Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 18th-century England and named after cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale, this style incorporates Georgian, Gothic, and Chinese influences, featuring cabriole legs, ball and claw feet, and carved hardwoods such as mahogany.

These pieces are constructed from solid mahogany framing with book-matched flame mahogany veneers applied to high-visibility surfaces like desk tops and drawer fronts, complemented by cast brass hardware.

Chippendale and high-quality reproduction pieces feature hand-carved cabriole legs ending in detailed ball and claw feet, dovetail drawer joinery, serpentine or breakfront silhouettes, and cast brass swan-neck handles.

Position the desk against a neutral wall or near a window to highlight the flame mahogany grain, pairing it with a tailored contemporary chair and understated brass lighting to balance historic detailing with contemporary lines.

Position the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent fading or timber movement, dusting regularly with a dry lint-free cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish annually to protect the surface veneer.
