Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cylinder desk features a rigid, quarter-cylindrical wooden section that rotates back into the upper casing to reveal an internal fitted writing surface and drawer compartment. Popularised in 18th and 19th century Europe, it provided a smooth alternative to traditional flat-sloped fall-front bureaux.

Late 19th-century cylinder desks were predominantly constructed using mahogany, walnut, or satinwood veneers over solid oak or pine frames. Brass hardware, including drop handles, keyhole escutcheons, and castors, was standard alongside leather writing surfaces inside.

Authentic pieces from this era exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer construction, original brass castors, and hand-turned or tapered leg joinery. The timber displays natural age patina, subtle shrinkage lines, and rich flame mahogany grain patterns.

A mahogany cylinder desk functions well as a focal point in a home office, hallway, or living room alcove. Pairing rich dark timber with contemporary neutral paint schemes and simple brass task lighting balances historical craftsmanship with modern decor.

Keep the desk away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer movement. Clean surfaces with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to maintain the wood finish.
