Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian Revival furniture, produced primarily in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, replicates the symmetry, balanced proportions, and fine craftsmanship of the eighteenth century. Desks of this style typically feature high-grade mahogany, flame veneers, bracket feet, and brass swan-neck drawer pulls.

Traditional pedestal desks were constructed using hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, often enhanced with flame or burr veneers on the drawer fronts. Secondary timbers like pine or oak were used for drawer linings, complemented by cast brass handles and occasional leather writing surfaces.

Look for hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, authentic oxidisation on the brass hardware, and natural wear along the drawer runners. Genuine pieces will also exhibit period-appropriate construction methods, such as separate top and pedestal sections designed for easier transportation.

Balance the visual weight of dark mahogany by positioning the desk against neutral walls with ample natural light. Pair it with a modern minimalist desk lamp, contemporary abstract artwork, or an ergonomic modern chair to create a refined transitional aesthetic.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the wood grain. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood movement, cracking, or fading of the timber colour.
