A stunning and very impressive pair of large antique Regency style mahogany armchairs. They were made in England, we would date them to around the 1920’s.

They are of very generous proportions and are beautifully designed, the quality is outstanding. The solid mahogany frames have gorgeous carving and gold embellishment on the back rests. They sit on wide splayed sabre shaped legs with brass hairy paw feet caps, they have feather filled cushions.

We have had the frames beautifully polished, they have been re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The condition is excellent for their age.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency style furniture, prominent in early 19th-century Britain, is characterised by classical proportions inspired by ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian designs. Key elements include the use of dark woods such as mahogany and rosewood, brass inlays or mounts, and splayed or sabre legs.

Regency armchairs typically utilise rich hardwoods like solid or veneered mahogany, often embellished with brass rosettes, star motifs, or castors. Upholstery traditionally features leather, heavy damasks, or horsehair fabrics.

Authentic Regency seating generally displays hand-carved details, traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, and hand-cast brass hardware. Later reproductions, while capturing the aesthetic, often utilise modern manufacturing techniques, uniform screws, and synthetic padding.

Regency armchairs act as statement architectural pieces in modern settings. Paired with minimalist contemporary sofas or positioned within a library corner, the dark wood frame and classical lines create structural contrast against neutral backdrops.

Mahogany frames should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and conditioned periodically with beeswax polish to preserve the original finish. Leather or fabric upholstery requires specialised cleaners to prevent drying, cracking, or staining, while avoiding direct heat sources and sunlight.
