Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian genre paintings typically depict narrative, everyday scenes of British life, rural activity, or romanticised rustic subjects. Watercolours from this period often feature soft colour palettes, delicate glazing techniques, and fine brushwork designed to capture natural light and detailed human expressions.

Artists utilised water-based pigments applied onto handmade rag paper or board. Frames from the Victorian era were typically constructed from carved wood or moulded composition plaster finished with leaf gilding over a bole base.

Authentic nineteenth-century watercolours often exhibit age-appropriate paper tonal shifting, light foxing, period signatures, and traditional mounting techniques. Examining the reverse side for period framer labels, older backing boards, and hand-cut fixings also provides evidence of period authenticity.

Hang the painting within a gallery wall alongside modern line drawings to create visual contrast. Alternatively, position it above a console table or mantelpiece to allow the intricate gilt frame to serve as a traditional focal point.

Display watercolours away from direct sunlight and high humidity, framed under UV-filtering glass with acid-free mounting materials. Lightly dust the gilded frame using a soft, dry brush, avoiding liquid cleaners which damage gold leaf and paper fibres.
